58An ordinary bus falls under the category of passenger vehicles, referring to motorised transport that operates on fixed urban routes with or without scheduled timetables, carrying passengers. Typically, it features a box-shaped design with windows and seating arrangements.
An ordinary bus is commonly referred to as a public service vehicle or simply a 'bus'. Buses can be classified in various ways: by operating range into short-distance (urban) and long-distance (intercity) services; by fuel type into diesel, gas, and electric buses; and by body structure into single-decker, double-decker, and articulated buses.
Passenger vehicles can be categorised by overall structure into single-unit and articulated configurations. Based on gross vehicle weight or seating capacity, buses are often classified as large, medium, or small. The bus body and chassis are divided into front and rear sections. In articulated buses, two sections are connected via a pivoting joint plate with a movable folding canopy, creating a continuous passenger compartment - hence their designation as 'articulated' or 'bendy' buses.
