The yellow light on the car dashboard is a fault reminder and maintenance reminder. There are many types of yellow lights on the car dashboard, mainly including the engine fault light, oil fault light, tire pressure fault light, etc.

Most of the reasons for electric power steering failure are electrical system and system failure. The electric motor is a device that generates force to drive the steering wheel. If the motor fails, there will be no power assistance.

Many units are computer-controlled, not just power steering. The computer that controls the engine system is called the ECU. Since the ECU is also responsible for the command system of power steering, if there is a problem with the system, the steering wheel will become very heavy.

A yellow warning light on your car’s dashboard indicates a non-critical issue that requires attention, but not immediate action like a red light would. Common yellow lights include the engine management light (indicating potential emissions or sensor issues), tyre pressure warning, or low fuel. While you can usually continue driving, it’s advisable to check the owner’s manual for specifics and schedule a diagnostic scan or inspection soon. Ignoring it could lead to more serious problems or reduced efficiency.

For example, the engine management light (often shaped like an engine) may illuminate due to a faulty oxygen sensor or loose fuel cap. A tyre pressure warning (exclamation mark inside a tyre symbol) suggests underinflation, which affects handling and fuel economy. Some modern cars, like the Ford Focus or Vauxhall Corsa, display brief messages explaining the warning. If the light flashes, it often signals a more urgent issue—such as a misfire—requiring prompt attention.

  1. Consult your owner’s manual to identify the exact light.
  2. Check for obvious issues (e.g., low fuel, visibly flat tyre).
  3. Use an OBD-II scanner for engine-related warnings if you have one.
  4. Visit a garage for diagnostics if the light persists or flashes.

From a mechanic’s perspective, a yellow dashboard light is your car’s way of saying, “I’m not feeling great, but I’ll survive for now.” It could point to anything from a minor sensor glitch to early signs of wear. Unlike a red light, which screams “Stop!”, yellow is more of a nudge to book a check-up. Common culprits include the ABS warning (anti-lock braking system) or a dirty mass airflow sensor. Don’t panic, but don’t procrastinate either—delaying repairs often escalates costs.
