Clutch drag occurs when the clutch fails to fully disengage, typically caused by issues like bent release levers, warped clutch plates, or incorrect hydraulic system adjustments. In UK vehicles like the Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa, clutch drag commonly manifests as difficulty shifting gears or the car moving when the pedal is partially depressed. The clutch sits between the engine and gearbox in the flywheel housing, bolted to the engine's rear surface. There are two main symptoms of clutch drag in UK cars: 1) Difficulty engaging gears when starting, where the vehicle may lurch forward or stall if forced into gear; and 2) Challenging gear changes while driving, often accompanied by gear grinding noises. Common UK-specific causes include excessive clutch pedal free play or improper adjustment of the master cylinder pushrod in hydraulic systems.
