From a mechanic’s perspective, a triplex plunger pump with no pressure often points to seal failure. The high-pressure seals degrade over time, especially with abrasive fluids. Check for fluid leaks around the pump head. If seals are worn, replace them with OEM parts to ensure proper fit and pressure retention. Also, verify the pump’s stroke adjustment—incorrect settings can mimic pressure loss.

The triplex plunger pump may have no pressure due to the following reasons:

  1. The car wash pump itself has aged. Generally, booster pumps are plunger pumps, and the worn rubber rings inside need replacing with new ones.
  2. Pipe blockage. The pump's inlet or outlet pipe being clogged by limescale or debris can also cause insufficient pressure.
  3. The plunger pump's seal may be damaged or aged, leading to severe internal leakage and resulting in the pressure washer having no pressure. Check whether the relief valve is properly adjusted or damaged.
  4. Debris may have entered the pressure washer, requiring disassembly and cleaning.

The working principle of the triplex plunger pump involves the electric motor driving the eccentric shaft of the plunger pump via a coupling sleeve to rotate. The connecting rod then converts the eccentric shaft's rotary motion into the plunger's linear reciprocating motion.

The use and maintenance of the triplex plunger pump are inseparable. The service life of a CAT triplex plunger pump depends on how we use it, so maintenance must be considered as soon as it is put into operation. Maintenance of the plunger pump is divided into routine maintenance and periodic maintenance. Although routine maintenance involves fewer steps, it is quite effective. To extend its service life, daily maintenance is crucial and should be strictly followed.

A triplex plunger pump losing pressure is typically caused by one of several common issues. The most likely culprits are worn plungers or seals, air leaks in the suction line, a faulty pressure relief valve, or contamination in the hydraulic fluid.

  1. Check the plungers and seals. Over time, these components wear out, leading to internal leakage and pressure loss. Inspect for scoring or damage and replace if necessary.
  2. Examine the suction line for air leaks. Even a small leak can prevent the pump from building pressure. Tighten connections and replace damaged hoses.
  3. Test the pressure relief valve. If it’s stuck open or set too low, pressure will bleed off. Adjust or replace the valve as needed.
  4. Inspect the hydraulic fluid. Contaminants or degraded fluid can reduce efficiency. Drain and replace the fluid if it appears dirty or has a burnt smell.

Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and seal inspections, can prevent these issues. If the problem persists, consult a hydraulic specialist for a thorough diagnosis.
