Reasons for squeaking noises when braking during vehicle start-up:

  1. The use of inferior or overly hard brake pads can cause squeaking noises when the pads rub against the brake discs during braking. Therefore, it is essential to use high-quality brake pads when replacing them.
  2. The presence of sand or foreign objects between the brake pads and discs can also cause unusual noises during braking. The solution is to visit a 4S dealership and have a professional mechanic inspect the vehicle, providing detailed information about the issue.
  3. Severe wear on the brake discs, caused by inferior brake pads or hard foreign objects lodged between the pads and discs, can lead to abnormal disc wear. The solution is simply to replace the brake pads.
  4. Brake pad warning: some brake pads feature electronic alerts, while lower-end vehicles use warning strips. If the brake pads wear down to the warning line, a squeaking alert sound will occur, indicating the need for immediate replacement.
  5. Rust or dirt on brake discs or pads: After prolonged parking, especially in damp weather or after rain, rust or dirt may form on the discs or pads. This can usually be resolved by driving for a while or applying butter or specialised lubricant to the connection between the brake pads and calipers.
  6. Low temperatures causing brake noise

A low-frequency noise may occur when braking during a cold start. Due to low temperatures, the rubber components of the chassis suspension become stiff, and some may vibrate against the frame, causing low-frequency noise from the brake calipers or suspension system.

Solution: Drive for a while until the vehicle warms up.

  1. Noise from new vehicles or recently replaced brake pads

In such cases, the brake pads and discs are brand new and not yet run in, which can lead to unusual noises.

Solution: If the noise disappears after some use, this is normal. If the noise persists, have the vehicle inspected and repaired as soon as possible.

Methods for maintaining vehicle brakes:

  1. Apply high-temperature protection to prevent corrosion in the braking system.
  2. Clean oil stains from brake discs, drums, and pads to ensure proper heat dissipation.
  3. Replace brake fluid at regular intervals.
  4. Regularly check the thickness of brake pads or shoes.
