77If a red light (!) appears on your car dashboard, don't worry too much. This is the brake system warning light, also known as the handbrake warning light. This warning light generally comes on under the following circumstances:
- When the ignition switch is turned on, the light will come on for a few seconds but will turn off after the car starts.
- It will also come on when the handbrake is pulled up and will turn off immediately once released.
- If the brake fluid level is too low, the light will come on during driving.
- If there is a malfunction in the brake system, the warning light will also come on.
Many car owners easily confuse this warning light with the parking indicator light. The parking light usually comes on when the handbrake is not released while driving, indicating a potential issue with the brake system. Its symbol features a "P" in the center.
If the parking indicator light comes on, it may be due to the following reasons:
- Check the brake pad wear to see if the brakes have failed.
- Ensure the handbrake is fully released, or there might be an issue with the sensor.
If you can't identify the cause after self-inspection, take the car to a repair shop for professional maintenance.
