Is the BMW 3 Series noisy? UK road test data and comparison

The BMW 3 Series produces moderate road noise, with measurements showing 42.3dB at idle, 53.4dB at 60mph and 57.2dB at 80mph on typical UK roads.

When compared to rivals like the Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4, the 3 Series (especially models with run-flat tyres) tends to be slightly noisier at motorway speeds. However, newer G20 generation models show improved sound insulation over previous versions. The noise levels remain within typical executive car standards, though some drivers may notice more tyre roar on coarse UK road surfaces. For quieter performance, consider the electric BMW i4 which shares the same platform but delivers near-silent operation.
