To remove a stuck windscreen wiper arm in the UK, apply penetrating oil (like WD-40) and gently rock the arm back and forth, or use a specialised wiper arm puller tool.

For proper removal:

  1. Lift the wiper arm to its upright position (like when changing blades)
  2. Locate the release tab on the connector (varies by model - common on Vauxhall, Ford and VW models)
  3. Press the tab while gently pulling the wiper blade assembly downwards
  4. For stubborn arms on older cars (like 2010-2015 Nissan Qashqai), apply more penetrant and wait 15 minutes

Wiper arms (called wiper linkages in some manuals) are the metal arms connecting to your windscreen wiper blades. Modern UK-spec cars like the 2023 Ford Focus or BMW 3 Series typically use hook-type connectors, while some Japanese models (e.g. Toyota Yaris) may use side-pin designs. Always check your vehicle's manual first - forcing stuck arms can damage the wiper motor or splined spindle.

For difficult cases, Halfords and Kwik Fit offer wiper replacement services from £10-£20 including fitting. The entire wiper mechanism (motor, arms and linkage) is covered under most UK manufacturer warranties for 3-5 years (e.g. Kia's 7-year warranty).
