From a safety perspective, lighting a camping stove requires caution. Always place the stove on a stable, non-flammable surface. Check for leaks by applying soapy water to connections—bubbles indicate a problem. Use a long-reach lighter to avoid burns. Never leave a lit stove unattended, and keep a fire extinguisher or water nearby. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions precisely to prevent accidents.

To ignite a camping stove safely and efficiently, follow these steps. Most modern camping stoves, such as those from brands like Jetboil or MSR, use either gas canisters or liquid fuel.

  1. Check the fuel supply: Ensure the gas canister is securely attached or the liquid fuel tank is filled. For gas stoves, listen for a hiss when you slightly open the valve to confirm fuel flow.
  2. Open the stove’s burner valve slowly. A sudden full release can cause a flare-up.
  3. Use a built-in igniter if available. Hold a flame (lighter or match) near the burner if not. Keep your face and body clear.
  4. Adjust the flame to the desired level once lit. A blue flame indicates efficient combustion; yellow flames suggest incomplete burning.
  5. Extinguish by turning the valve fully clockwise. Wait for the stove to cool before packing.

For safety, always light the stove in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials. Practice at home before relying on it outdoors.

  1. Reset the switch: First, ensure the ignition switch is reset or positioned at the "OFF" setting on the camping stove; only when the switch is reset to the "OFF" position can the gas canister be inserted into the stove body.
  2. Install the gas canister: When placing the gas canister, ensure the valve notch faces upwards. It is crucial to align the valve notch of the gas canister with the protruding connector of the overpressure protection device on the camping stove. Gently push the canister until it clicks into place with the stove valve.
  3. Ignition: Rotate the switch leftwards to the "ON" position until you hear a "click" sound, then ensure the burner is lit before releasing.
  4. Adjust the flame intensity: The camping stove features three flame settings—high (3kW), medium (2kW), and low (1kW). Rotating the ignition switch towards "ON" increases the flame intensity, while turning it towards "OFF" reduces it.
  5. Extinguish the flame: Rotate the switch rightwards to the "OFF" position to turn off the flame, then remove the gas canister.
