The XV1900 is a seriously impressive big Japanese cruiser. Its 1,854cc air-cooled V-twin is all about low-down torque rather than revs, with belt drive and a 5-speed gearbox. Despite its old-school appearance, Yamaha used an aluminium frame and strong twin-disc front brakes, so it handles and stops better than its size suggests.

It boasts enormous torque, lovely V-twin character, excellent build quality, very relaxed motorway manners and surprisingly competent handling for such a huge bike. Owner reviews remain very positive, particularly about the engine and reliability.

A huge, charismatic, extremely torquey cruiser that’s generally very well built. For the money, I’d happily put a clean XV1900 up against considerably more expensive Harley or Indian alternatives.
