This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Brooklands Velocity; Mercedes-Benz World sale on Saturday 29th November. Full matching numbers example. Zero mileage restored example in stunning order. Part of the Shamley collection. The Yamaha FS1E, affectionately known as the Fizzy, was introduced in the early 1970s as a purpose-built UK moped designed to meet British moped law. Its 49cc, air-cooled two-stroke single cylinder engine delivered around 4.8bhp and originally came with a five-speed gearbox, later restricted to four to satisfy regulation. Uniquely, the FS1E incorporated bicycle-style pedals to comply with legal requirements in the UK at that time; those pedals could be engaged or stowed, though they were seldom used in practice. With a lightweight frame of about 70kg and a compact design, it offered surprisingly brisk performance for a 50cc machine top speeds in excess of 40mph were occasionally claimed in its unrestricted form. Over its production lifespan, Yamaha sold roughly 200,000 units in the UK alone, and the FS1E has become a celebrated icon of British moped culture, admired both for its simplicity and its role as many riders first motorised machine.This stunning example of the 50cc Fizzy was first registered on 17th October 1974 some 51 years ago and it is presented in wonderful Popsicle Purple paint with stunning chrome work and white decals. Fully restored to an unbelievable quality with correct decals and Aaraya wheels, it has not turned a wheel since the restoration and is a true collectors piece. Full matching numbers and road registered, this will likely grace any collection, and viewing is highly recommended. With four previous keepers and kept in a heated garage as part of the Shamley collection, this wonderful example of a moped many of us know and fondly remember is sure to make you fall in love with the 70s all over again.
