This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Brooklands Velocity; Mercedes-Benz World sale on Saturday 29th November. Full matching numbers restored example. Rare de restricted Auto Lube in stunning order. Part of the Shamley collection. The Yamaha FS1E, affectionately known as the Fizzy, was introduced in the early 1970s as a purpose-built UK moped designed to meet British moped law. Its 49cc, air-cooled two-stroke single cylinder engine delivered around 4.8bhp and originally came with a five-speed gearbox, later restricted to four to satisfy regulation. Uniquely, the FS1E incorporated bicycle-style pedals to comply with legal requirements in the UK at that time; those pedals could be engaged or stowed, though they were seldom used in practice. With a lightweight frame of about 70kg and a compact design, it offered surprisingly brisk performance for a 50cc machine top speeds in excess of 40mph were occasionally claimed in its unrestricted form. Over its production lifespan, Yamaha sold roughly 200,000 units in the UK alone, and the FS1E has become a celebrated icon of British moped culture, admired both for its simplicity and its role as many riders first motorised machine.First registered on 21ST June 1977, this stunning Yellow Fizzy has been fully restored with originality at the heart of the stunning restoration process. This is one of the very last de restricted Auto Lube bikes before the restrictions came in on August 1977 when the Fizzy became top speed restricted to 30mph. A fully matching numbers example and housed in the Shamley collection in a heated and dehumidified garage, this is one of four FS1E examples that can be considered one of the best Fizzy collections available. The trimming, paint finish, decals and chrome work are all stunning and we would strongly recommend viewing to appreciate the quality of the collection and fall in love with the 70s moped all over again.
