Age
Bought in 2014, have travelled to the Alps and back a few times. The tyres are dated 2014.
Condition
The steel wheels are pretty scabby but solid. The tyres have about half tread left and tread is evenly worn across all tyres. There are no plugs or punctures. Not used April through November.
Performance
If you have not used winter tyres before, you are in for a surprise. They are BRILLIANT in the snow, expecially with four-wheel drive (like the Tiguan is, when needed). You will not need chains until the snow is six inches thick. The tyres have the "Mountain" symbol which indicates that they are approved for alpine roads (you will not be denied entry to the mountain by a gendarme or polizei). In 2014, these were the recommended tyre.
Reason for sale
1. I have nowhere to keep them, having lost my garage.
2. I have bought All-Season tyres (Michelin Cross-Climate 2) for all year use.
Should you buy?
If you're planning a trip to the mountains this winter and you have only summer tyres, yes you should. You can be stopped and turned around by police if you don't have them. You MUST have matching offsets and lug patterns. Note that the tyre sizes are NOT the same as a standard Tiguan. This is because the winter tyres are narrower and have a bigger profile. This means that the tyre diameter is the SAME as the standard tyre even though two dimensions are different. This is good - a narrower tyre has greater weight per square centimeter of contact, helping the grip. The speedometer reads correctly because the tyre diameter is the same. Note that there is a recommended max speed of 80mph. The tyre compound feels softer than summer tyre because it is, and this also helps grip.
