Description

This is a very original 2000 Volvo S80 2.4 petrol. It was bought as a temporary car when my previous car unexpectedly died but I ended up running it for four years as my daily drive as it's so capable and comfortable.

The S80 is the saloon version of Volvo's venerable V70 and is often considered as one of Volvo's best and most successful cars of the 21st Century. The interior cabin and boot space are both colossal.

This one has a nice leather interior, with slight cracking appearing on the drivers seat but no rips. There's power steering, heated front seats, radio, dash CD, bluetooth adapter for audio playback, climate control*, tilt/slide electric sunroof*, electric windows and folding rear seats for load carrying.

There's a couple of asterisks in there, and you'll not be surprised to learn that on this 26 year old car not everything works. If everything worked it would be up for two grand. So here's the stuff that isn't so good.

Like just about every other 26 year old car, the air conditioning doesn't work and didn't when I bought the car. This needs at least a new compressor and new condensor and I elected to open the windows instead. The temperature management for heating works well. One of the few common faults on this car (try googling it) is a failed alarm siren module. The siren has a battery in it for power back up and when the car reaches a certain age the batteries start to fail. When this happens you get a 'siren failure' warning but sometimes the batteries can leak, and that causes the fuse to the upper electrical module to fail. When that fuse blows, the keyless entry and sunroof stop working, and that's where we're at here. The central locking operates correctly but needs to be operated with the key in the door. A new siren should sort it, and they're typically about £70 on Ebay.

The other bad news is that there's a crack in the windscreen. This is in the lower quarter of the offside but seems stable and didn't cause any concern at the last MOT inspection.

I had this tested last year and then almost immediately sourced my replacement car and I stored this one. I need the space so it's time for it to go! The MOT on this expires at the end of April but it has done, literally, two miles since the last inspection so I don't anticipate any problems on retest.

The bodywork is in very good condition, and ridiculously brilliant condition for a car of this age. It's a solid, comfortable, reliable motor that is pleasant to drive and never let me down.
