1968 VW T2 Campervan

Description

This is a very original Danbury conversion 1968 T2 Bay Window campervan. Owned by my dad for the last 53 years. It has never been restored, has always had a Mot and always been garaged.

Condition
Mechanically this van is very good with a solid chassis and reconditioned engine. It all works and runs. But it does now have a good “patina” with the side windows and door bottoms starting to rust and most of the side panels “dinked” due to my dad not being able to turn around as he reverses!!

Why this is Special
This is my dads van that he purchased in 1973. It has been a runner with a mot ever since. It has never been laid up. It has been garaged for the last 53 years. Unfortunately, as my dad is now 92 and although he still drives it on the odd occasion around SE London it is getting a bit of an effort to get in and out of it.
He drove it to a big VW meet at Penhurst in Sussex this year and it won Best Most Original Unrestored Van!!
It will come with an awning, chairs, gas bottle and other camping gear thrown in for free together with 50 years’ worth of receipts.

Mechanics
Look at the Mot record!!! It speaks for itself
Fully reconditioned 1.6L engine fitted 2018 (only done 6k miles since) at cost of £3.5k
Power steering
Most of the panels have had bottom ¼ cills replaced in the past
The chassis is solid with only last mot advising that there is some rust/corrosion now appearing
I think the gearchange is sloppy and the brakes are interesting but I’m told they are all like that

Other Stuff
I’m the son of the owner and handling all the sale as my dad is deaf and will not hear the phone and hates email. The van is in Mottingham SE9 London while I’m down at Guildford. If you are seriously interested then I’ll arrange the visit. I will only accept cash / bank transfer and we will transfer ownership via DVLA website there and then. It’s a full runner with MoT so you can drive it away – I’m assuming you have driven one before or you are in for a surprise.
