So the time has come to say goodbye to my 1987 Vauxhall Cavalier Convertible, which I have had a lot of fun with. It also got me out of a hole when my daily car broke down!
this is the 1.8i engine that came in the Sri , and the car is one of only 60odd registered for the road out of only 1000 made for the RHD market.
First the bad points, it's going to need a new roof!! Not that I use it, it's either in my garage or roof down being driven in the sun. It will possibly need a new clutch. easy enough to do though and I bought the tools to do it. There are also some surface rust patches here and there, but not too bad although I think the wheel arches will need doing. Paintwork will also need doing at some point if you really want to! Interior seats will need a refurb and the windows rattle, well it is 40 years old!!
Since it's come into my ownership there's quite a bit that's been done to it.
it's had a replacement cambelt, water pump and thermostat, as well as alternator belt. Front discs and pads, and rear drums pads and brake cylinders
I've replaced the windscreen and the terrible wheels it came with and fitted a new heater resistor. It also has new front and rear speakers and a brand new Alpine head unit with DAB, It has a hella front grill though I haven't as yet wired in the lights, I do have the relay and wires for it. I have also replaced the backbox with a new old stock standard box. I also replaced the battery.
Despite being a work in progress it does still turn heads out and about, and gets a lot of positive comments. It's a good honest useable classic car that can be worked on at the same time. It's had filters and oil change done as well as a new radiator too.
I do have loads of old MOT's and receipts too.
