2007 Volkswagen 2.5t Transporter T30 SWB 6 seater camper/day van

We have owned this van since 2010 and it has been our family wagon. We have had it serviced every 10k miles and I can tell you everything that has happened to it in the last 16 years. It was a standard panel van and we converted it to a camper when we bought it. As our family grew, we needed more space inside and it has slowly morphed into more of a day van but it can still be used as a camper. It has three seats in the front and a full width RIB bed in the back. A lot of work was done on it last year to keep it running well. MOT until July 2026 and only covered 5k miles since last MOT and service.

The good bits:
- Recent major work includes new clutch (2025), camshaft replacement (2025), EGR valve (2025), rear discs and pads (2024), turbo and DPF (2023), O/S drive shaft (2022). All servicing and maintenance has been carried out by local garages.
- Never crashed. Body work in general is pretty good for it’s age.
- Tyres all good.
- Full width RIB bed professionally installed in 2011 with Kira Vans kit.
- Ply lined, carpeted, fully insulated, sound deadening in the doors, Altro flooring. It is a really quiet drive.
- Awning rail fitted to N/S, leisure battery with split charge under driver’s seat, table with rail.
- Windows and curtains all round.
- Normal car speed limits so no frustrating dual carriageway restrictions.
- Tow bar fitted about 4 years ago to tow a small trailer.
- Fiamma bike rack with uprated struts for tailgate.

The bad bits:
- It’s a 19 year old van and has been a workhorse for an active family of 5! It was a DIY conversion and some of it is looking a little tired.
- There is damage on the tailgate from a poorly designed bike rack. On the sliding door there is a long scratch and areas of paintwork that need attention.
- For transparency - there is an intermittent fault under certain conditions which we have had since 2023 (predates the turbo replacement). Fault code is P0299 – turbo underboost. It happens when the engine is cold and under load. The engine management light comes on and sometimes there is a loss of power, sometimes not. If the ignition is switched off and on again the fault clears and everything is good again. It is an intermittent fault rather than a regular issue. Several local garages have tried to identify the fault and cannot find the cause. Turbo, vacuum system etc is all good. Can only think it is a sensor issue.
- In the last few days I have noticed a knocking in N/S suspension. Sounds like a ball joint to me but I haven’t had time to get it sorted.
