TRIUMPH THUNDERBIRD 900, 2002, ONLY 6837 MILES.

Up for sale is my very nice Thunderbird, standard except for the comfortable king & queen seat and slightly lower handlebar (standard USA-type bar available). The bike has had 5 previous owners, with half the current mileage being done by 2007. I bought the bike on July 2021, at 5120 miles, but soon discovered that oil was leaking into a spark plug cavity. Some time after I put the T'bird on SORN and only taxed the bike again in June 2025. In the intervening period I fitted a new cambox gasket set, which cured the leakage. On checking the valve clearances I found one exhaust clearance was too small. Time went by and I plucked up courage to fit a new bucket shim - a difficult and time consuming job. In the last year I have fitted a new Triumph petrol tap, crank sensor and fan switch. In May I had a new starter motor fitted, and I have just changed the oil & filter, and the renewed the coolant and brake/clutch fluids.

The T'bird is in excellent condition for its age, but not mint. Whilst in storage, during its life, the bike has suffered some corrosion/tarnishing to various parts, especially wheel rims (spokes are stainless steel). A photo shows the worst tarnishing. The 2 chromed covers on the right hand side have some flaking chrome, and there is some corrosion on the top and bottom fork yokes. The silencers also are not perfect close up. The bike came to me with an un-mentioned small dent in the front right of the petrol tank, which was tricky to show in a photo, but one is attached. Also, there are 2 tiny chips and some very light scratches on the tank. On the plus side the bike is very low mileage, recently serviced, and has Oxford heated grips for chilly days.

I am selling the T'bird because I recently bought a 2002 Triumph Sprint RS 955i, which I have converted to use sensible handlebars (instead of clip-ons). I also rather like the more powerful engine. I have priced the Thunderbird to reflect the slightly diminished cosmetic appearance, but that does not really detract from the general look of the bike. It also runs very well, though I have never ridden more than 50mls at a time.
