A beautifully preserved modern classic with remarkable provenance, extremely low mileage, and a known history from new.
We are delighted to offer for sale this increasingly rare Triumph Daytona 1200, originally pre-registered in November 1997 and then sold to its first owner in January 1998 with just 55 miles recorded. Since then, it has remained safely tucked away as part of the previous owner’s private collection, covering only very limited mileage over nearly three decades.

This is a motorcycle with a history we know personally. I was the General Manager at Three Cross, the supplying Triumph dealer, and remember buying this pre-registered Daytona directly from the Triumph factory before it was sold on to its former keeper. In later years, after joining forces with Howard, I also recall the owner bringing the bike in on the occasional visit when an MOT was required. With that background, we can confidently confirm that the 1,721 miles currently showing on the odometer are correct.

Its condition is, quite simply, one of the bike’s strongest selling points. Even without the supporting history, one look at the photographs shows just how special this Daytona is: beautifully preserved, highly original, and astonishingly close to immaculate as-new condition. As always, we prefer to be completely open and accurate, so it is worth noting that the screen has a small crack and that some minor detailing would lift the bike that final step closer to showroom perfection. Anyone seriously interested really should come and see it in person, because examples like this rarely come on the market.

The bike has been off the road for the last eight years due to the previous owner’s illness, but it has recently been recommissioned and is now ready for sale. The 1997 Daytona 1200 was one of Triumph’s flagship big-bore sports touring machines, powered by an 1180cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine producing around 147 hp, with a six-speed gearbox and a quoted top speed of approximately 168 mph.

For the collector, enthusiast, or rider looking for a very low-mileage example of a genuine Hinckley-era performance Triumph, this Daytona 1200 represents a rare opportunity. Modern classics of this calibre, mileage, and provenance seldom come to market, and this example is simply glorious.
