Park Keeper

London Borough of Hackney

£17.28 per hour (£23.29 umbrella)

Full-time | 36 hours per week | Shift work (including weekends)

About the Role

We're looking for a dedicated and proactive Park Keeper to help maintain Hackney's parks and open spaces to the highest standards, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all visitors.

This is a hands-on, front-facing role where you'll play a key part in keeping green spaces clean, secure, and thriving, while providing excellent customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities

Patrol parks and open spaces, maintaining a visible presence during opening hours

Carry out general grounds maintenance and ensure high horticultural standards

Remove litter, graffiti, and maintain clean public areas and facilities

Conduct safety inspections of play areas, equipment, and park features

Lock/unlock parks and ensure site security

Respond to incidents, emergencies, and enforce park byelaws where needed

Provide helpful information and support to park users

Maintain records, incident reports, and inspection logs

Operate and maintain park machinery, vehicles, and equipment safely

Support animal care in designated areas (e.g., Clissold Park, when required)

Work collaboratively with council teams and external partners

What We're Looking For

Experience in grounds maintenance, park keeping, or similar outdoor roles

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently

Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude

Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks

Full UK driving licence

Basic xjnqpsq horticultural knowledge (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent desirable)

Experience with machinery and equipment (training provided where needed)

Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends on a rota basis
