Housing Appeals Officer East London | £30.38 per hour Umbrella

A Local Authority in East London is seeking an experienced Housing Appeals Officer to join their Housing team on an interim basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with strong homelessness and appeals experience to play a key role in delivering fair, lawful and high-quality housing decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct reviews on the suitability of accommodation offered to homeless households in line with statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act.

Review homelessness application decisions and housing register appeals.

Manage appeals relating to council tenancies, including fixed-term tenancy reviews and introductory tenancy reviews.

Prepare detailed, high-quality case reports and decision letters.

Defend legal challenges relating to homelessness and allocations decisions.

Ensure all decisions are legally compliant and in line with current legislation, guidance and case law.

Requirements

Previous experience working within Housing Appeals or Housing Reviews in a Local Authority setting.

Extensive experience handling complex homelessness casework and report writing. xjnqpsq

Strong knowledge of:

Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

Homelessness Code of Guidance

Localism Act 2011

Housing Act 1985

Landlord & Tenant legislation

Relevant immigration, family, community care and children’s legislation

Experience defending legal challenges relating to homelessness and/or allocations decisions.

A strong understanding of the challenges surrounding homelessness and a commitment to reducing homelessness and supporting vulnerable households
