Material Demand Planner

Location: Goole, DN14 6BS

Pay Rate: 16.36 per hour

Contract Type: Temporary

Hours: 08:00 – 16:00 / 09:00 – 17:00

Reporting To: Head of Materials Planning

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a Material Demand Planner to join a leading rail industry organisation based in Goole. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner with a background in materials, production, supply chain, or demand planning who enjoys working with forecasting systems, data analysis, and stakeholder management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for forecasting material demand, scheduling inventory requirements, and ensuring the availability of materials to support production activities and fleet maintenance programmes. You will work closely with planning, operations, projects, and supply chain teams to deliver accurate forecasts, optimise inventory levels, and improve planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain accurate material demand forecasts across multiple fleets and projects.Analyse data from various sources to identify trends and create reliable demand plans.Plan and schedule materials to support production schedules and overhaul activities.Work closely with operational teams, project managers, and materials control teams to ensure material availability.Monitor inventory requirements and support effective inventory management strategies.Validate materials delivery schedules and associated purchase requests.Identify supply risks and support escalation, root cause analysis, and resolution activities.Produce reports and KPI dashboards to measure forecasting accuracy and planning performance.Support Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) activities.Drive continuous improvement initiatives across forecasting, planning, and ordering processes.Support the implementation and optimisation of forecasting and ERP systems.

Essential Experience & Skills

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

A background in planning, such as Material Planning, Production Planning, Demand Planning, Supply Planning, or Inventory Planning.Experience in scheduling and forecasting activities.Experience using a forecasting or planning system (Syncron, SAP, Oracle, Kinaxis, JDA, or similar).Strong data analysis and problem–solving skills.Understanding of inventory management principles.Knowledge of industry KPIs and performance reporting.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.Excellent numerical and analytical ability.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.

Desirable Experience

Experience supporting IBP/SIOP processes.Knowledge of forecasting methodologies and service level planning.Experience within rail, manufacturing, engineering, automotive, aerospace, or other complex operational environments.Previous exposure to Syncron forecasting software.
