HGV Driver / Loader – Refuse & Recycling

Bideford, North Devon Temporary 14.59 per hour PAYE 37 hours per week Immediate start

Fusion People is recruiting an HGV Driver/Loader to join the Waste & Recycling team of a local authority client in North Devon, based at their operational depot in Bideford.

This is a hands–on role for a driver who is happy to get stuck in, you'll be behind the wheel of the refuse/recycling vehicle and working the kerbside alongside your crew, keeping collections running across the district.

The assignment

Dates: 24 July 2026 to 28 August 2026Hours: 37 per week, 06:00 to 15:00Days: Monday to Friday, with Saturday cover required when needed (particularly following bank holidays)Pay: 14.59 per hour, PAYELocation: Bideford, North Devon

What you'll be doing

Driving and operating a refuse/recycling vehicle on established kerbside routes across the districtLoading domestic refuse and recycling alongside the collection crewTipping and emptying the vehicle dailyCarrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting any defectsCompleting the drivers' hours book and submitting weekly paperworkCleaning the vehicle body and cab at least once a weekBeing a helpful, professional face for residents, including advising on correct disposal of refuse and recyclingWorking to site health and safety practices at all times

What you'll need

Essential

Full UK HGV licence (Category C / Class 2 as a minimum)Valid Driver CPC – 35 hours completedDigital tachograph cardGood level of fitness, this is a physical role, outdoors in all weathersExperience dealing with customers or members of the publicConfidence working on your own initiative as well as part of a crewA working understanding of health and safety, including manual handlingGood verbal communication and a flexible approachDesirable

Previous experience of waste or refuse collectionEducated to GCSE level or equivalent

PPE and dress code

Safety shoes, hi–viz jacket, ballistic trousers and wet weather gear are required on site.
