Part–Time SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Are you a graduate who has studied childcare, mental health, emotional abuse, or child development and are now looking to begin a rewarding career supporting vulnerable children? This part–time SEN Teaching Assistant role in a primary school could be the ideal opportunity to put your knowledge into practice.

We are seeking a nurturing, patient, and committed individual to join a warm and inclusive primary setting, supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), learning difficulties, and trauma–related challenges.

What You ll Be Doing

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you ll help create a safe, calm, and supportive environment where young children feel understood and ready to learn. Your day–to–day role may include:

Providing 1:1 or small–group support to pupils with additional needs

Helping children regulate their emotions and develop positive coping strategies

Supporting children who may have experienced emotional or physical trauma

Assisting the class teacher to adapt lessons to meet individual needs

Encouraging communication, confidence, and social interaction

Offering reassurance and consistent emotional support throughout the school day

We re Looking For Someone Who Is:

A graduate or student of childcare, psychology, mental health, emotional abuse, counselling, or a related field

Empathetic and calm, especially when supporting children with SEMH needs

Passionate about helping young children feel safe, supported, and valued

A patient communicator who can build trust with vulnerable pupils

Reliable, flexible, and happy to work part time around personal commitments
