Teaching Assistant – Wembley, Greater London

Salary: £21,149–£22,369 pro‑rata (FTE £28,199–£29,825, depending on experience)

Hours: Full-time, 38.5 hours per week, term‑time only (39 weeks)

Reports to: Class Teacher

About the Role

The Corner School is seeking a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across KS1–KS2. You’ll help pupils feel safe, engaged and ready to learn by offering consistent learning support, behaviour regulation, and emotional guidance.

Working closely with teachers, therapists and the wider school team, you’ll play a key part in creating a nurturing, trauma‑informed environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Learning & Development

Support pupils in class and 1:1, including phonics, literacy and numeracy.

Prepare and adapt learning materials; use IT to create engaging activities.

Give consistent feedback, encouragement and opportunities for reflection.

Implement therapist recommendations and support plans.

Behaviour Support

Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques (training provided).

Build trusting relationships and help pupils regulate when distressed.

Wellbeing & Safety

Ensure pupil safety following safeguarding, First Aid and risk procedures.

Promote inclusion; provide personal/intimate care where necessary (training provided).

General Duties

Attend training, briefings and meetings.

Complete admin tasks, behaviour logs and reports.

Collaborate closely with colleagues and contribute to school development.

About You

You bring warmth, patience and consistency. You can stay grounded during challenging moments, hold clear boundaries with kindness, and work collaboratively to support children with SEMH needs.

We’re looking for:

GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

Experience supporting children with SEMH/SEN in a primary setting

Understanding of behaviour support and de-escalation

Ability to assist with learning and adapt activities

Strong communication, numeracy, literacy and ICT skills

Empathy, resilience and a strong commitment to safeguarding

Desirable (not essential):

Relevant CPD, First Aid, experience with EHCPs or phonics

Familiarity with safe holding approaches such as PRICE (training provided)

You will be working with children who may display challenging behaviours and must feel confident following behaviour plans and using de-escalation strategies.
