Description

We are working with a specialist school in Tameside to recruit full-time SEMH Teaching Assistants to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. These are long-term roles starting immediately, ideal for those looking to make a lasting impact on young people facing barriers to education.

Role Overview:

Support pupils aged 5–16 with SEMH needs, including anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, and behavioural challenges

Work alongside experienced teachers to manage classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment

Help pupils develop key life skills such as emotional regulation, resilience, and social interaction

Deliver structured support during lessons, break times, and transition periods

About the School:

Specialist SEMH setting with small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios

Calm, structured environment focused on restorative practice and personalised learning

Strong, supportive leadership team and clear behaviour policies

Essential Requirements:

Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or in a PRU, alternative provision, or care setting

Confident managing challenging behaviour with a calm and consistent approach

Available Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm

Desirable:

Team Teach or similar behaviour management training

Experience working with trauma-informed or attachment-aware practices

Resilient, proactive, and committed to supporting vulnerable learners

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, long-term role – part-time is not available

Candidates must be based in the UK and ready to start promptly

All offers subject to enhanced DBS on the Update Service, safeguarding training, and two recent references

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
