Description
PURPOSE:
To ensure the educational needs of children and young people who are hearing impaired are met and that they become independent learners and achieve their full potential. To advise educators, families and the Local Authority regarding the needs of the children and young people who are hearing impaired. To fulfil the statutory duties of the Local Authority.
The post holder is specifically responsible for ensuring:
• Promotion of inclusive practice
• Access to the curriculum for all hearing impaired children and young people
• Raising achievement of hearing impaired children and young people
• Creation of an independent effective learning environment
• Effective liaison with families to develop partnerships
• Promotion, support of and compliance with Hull City Councils policies and procedures
• Effective and efficient use of resources and provide value for money
• The monitoring of Audiological equipment
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Please note decision making must be included within the Principal Accountabilities
To visit/ support hearing impaired children and young people in various settings to advise and collaborate with: Curriculum needs and teaching strategies, The use of technical and other specialist equipment, Supporting personal and social development, Implications of hearing loss, Communication needs and language development in signed and/or spoken language as appropriate
Plan, prepare and deliver discrete programmes of work to hearing impaired children and young people which are supportive of full inclusion
Effective liaison with all colleagues in the Hearing Impaired Team
Direct teaching of individual pupils when appropriate in mainstream, resourced schools, special schools, early years and other settings and homes
Ensure that where the teacher is working in partnership with a support colleague, whether in base or in mainstream, appropriate use is made of their support
Advise mainstream colleagues as to the needs of hearing impaired pupils and the implications of deafness on learning
Maintain appropriate records as guided by service protocols to include: Individual Pupil records, visit records and records of assessments
Advise families on educational matters and individual pupil progress by contributing to the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of IEP’s, EHC Plans and annual reviews to support full access to and participation in the curriculum and school life
Effective liaison with other agencies and services who share interest in the client group including specialist assessment of needs following referrals from hospitals, schools and SEN casework officers
Identify the need for Audiological assessment; carry out assessment in partnership with the Educational Audiologist. xjnqpsq Jointly monitor and maintain Audiological equipment
The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health and safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate Health and Safety policy
