Description

About the role

Help a child find a way to ask for help, join a shared activity or feel comfortable in a new routine. Teach Now is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant for an EYFS and primary special school in Barnet, supporting children with autism, communication differences and additional learning needs.

This setting centres learning on play, familiar routines and achievable steps. Your day will combine classroom support with focused communication work, sensory breaks and practical learning. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will help children participate in their own way while building the trust that makes progress possible.

Key responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small–group support through play, early learning and classroom activities.

Use visual timetables, objects of reference and agreed communication approaches.

Support emotional regulation, transitions, play times and lunchtime routines.

Assist with toileting and personal care where required, maintaining dignity and following care plans.

Record small steps in progress and share observations with teachers and the SENCO.

Requirements

Experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting is essential, including autism and communication needs.

Confidence working with EYFS or primary pupils and adapting activities to developmental needs.

A patient, observant approach; experience with visual communication or AAC is welcome.

You must be based in the UK, have the right to work in the UK and be able to commit to a long–term placement. Visa sponsorship is not available. A strong commitment to safeguarding is essential.

What this role offers

A full–time, long–term placement offering continuity with the same pupils.

A varied mix of play–based learning, communication work and practical support.

The opportunity to see early communication and independence skills develop.

Close collaboration with the class team around individual learning goals.
