Description

Location: North Tyneside / Online

Role: 1:1 SEN Tutor

Hours: Flexible - 2-6 hours per day

Booking via: Tradewind Recruitment

Are you an experienced tutor, teacher or education professional looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to a young person's education?

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for 1:1 SEN Tutors across North Tyneside to provide personalised tuition to children and young people who require additional support with their education. Tuition can be delivered face-to-face or online, depending on the needs of the individual student.

Working in partnership with North Tyneside Council, you will support learners who may be unable to access mainstream education or who require additional 1:1 support. Many of the students will have EHCPs, SEND, SEMH needs, ASC, ADHD or other additional needs and barriers to education, so we are looking for patient, adaptable and engaging educators who can build positive relationships and tailor their approach to each individual learner.

The Role

As a 1:1 SEN Tutor, you will provide personalised tuition sessions designed around the individual needs of each student, helping them to re-engage with education, rebuild confidence and make progress towards their individual academic and personal targets.

Students may have a range of additional needs, and tuition will often require a flexible and individualised approach. This could include adapting lesson content, breaking learning down into manageable steps, using different teaching strategies and working towards targets outlined within a student's EHCP or individual education plan.

Depending on the learner, tuition may cover subjects including:

Maths

English

Science

GCSE-level subjects

Functional Skills

Other core curriculum subjects

Sessions can be delivered in person across North Tyneside or online, with the number of hours varying depending on each student's individual needs and referral.

This offers excellent flexibility, with the opportunity to take on individual students or build up a larger weekly timetable depending on your availability.

We're Looking For

The ideal tutor will have:

Previous teaching, tutoring or educational support experience

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or additional needs

Experience working with learners who may struggle to access mainstream education

A good understanding of the primary and/or secondary curriculum

The ability to adapt sessions to suit individual learning needs, abilities and learning styles

An understanding of EHCPs and working towards individual outcomes and targets

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

A patient, nurturing and consistent approach

The ability to build trust and engagement with students who may have had difficulties within education

The confidence to work independently and deliver engaging 1:1 sessions

Relevant teaching, tutoring or subject-specific qualifications and/or experience

The ability to deliver tuition face-to-face and/or online

Experience working with students with EHCPs, SEND, SEMH, ASC, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs or other additional needs would be highly beneficial.

Experience within SEN schools, alternative provisions, PRUs, specialist settings or 1:1 SEN tuition would also be advantageous.

A teaching qualification such as QTS or QTLS would be advantageous but is not essential. We welcome applications from teachers, tutors, HLTAs, teaching assistants and experienced SEN professionals who have the relevant skills and experience.
