Position: SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH

Contract Type: Full-time, long-term temporary

Start Date: 8 September 2026

Location: Ealing, London, UK

Salary: £90–£100 per day

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. The higher rate is intended for candidates with relevant SEMH, behaviour-support, specialist-school or alternative-provision experience.

Make a Difference as an SEN Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a calm, resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in an inclusive Ealing setting.

The appointed SEN Teaching Assistant will help pupils regulate their emotions, access learning and develop positive relationships with adults and peers. You may provide one-to-one support, assist with structured interventions and help pupils manage transitions throughout the school day.

Relationships are central to this role. The school is seeking someone who can maintain clear boundaries while remaining patient, consistent and encouraging.

Your Responsibilities

Providing one-to-one and small-group SEMH support

Helping pupils access lessons and differentiated activities

Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour

Using agreed de-escalation and behaviour-support strategies

Encouraging independence, resilience and communication

Recording progress, concerns and incidents accurately

Working with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral professionals

Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured periods

What We Are Looking For

Applicants should have:

Recent experience supporting children or young people

Experience of SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour

A calm and consistent approach

Strong relationship-building skills

The ability to follow individual support and behaviour plans

A commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality

The right to work in the UK

Experience in a specialist school, PRU, alternative provision, youth service or similar setting would be highly beneficial.
