SEN Teaching Assistant - 2:1 Support (Year 2)

Location: Selly Oak, Birmingham, B29

Pay Rate: £460 - £500 Weekly Pay

Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential to become permanent)

Start Date: ASAP

Long Term Futures are supporting a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Selly Oak (B29) seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 2:1 support within a Year 2 class.

This rewarding role involves supporting two pupils with very different needs:

One child with complex physical and learning needs, working at EYFS level and using a wheelchair.

Another child who is non-verbal with Autism (ASD), who splits their time between a purpose-built nurture room and the classroom.The ideal candidate will be nurturing, adaptable, and confident supporting children with both communication and physical needs, ensuring they can access learning and thrive in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 2:1 support tailored to pupils with physical, sensory, and communication needs

Use visual aids, Makaton, and PECs to support non-verbal communication

Encourage independence, confidence, and emotional well-being

Support the child with mobility, personal care, and engagement in classroom activities

Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals

Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all learnersCandidate Requirements

Previous experience supporting children with SEN, especially ASD, non-verbal communication, or complex physical needs

Understanding of EYFS-level learning and early developmental approaches

Calm, patient, and empathetic with excellent communication skills

Confident working 1:1 and 2:1 within a classroom or nurture environment

Familiarity with Makaton or PECs is highly desirable

Must hold a valid DBS and provide two satisfactory referencesWhy Work with Long Term Futures?
