SEN Specialist Tutor

Contract / Position Details:

Location: Gateshead

Position: SEN Specialist Tutor

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Dependent on individual student needs

Hours: Part-time (10-15 hours per week)

Session Length: Minimum 1 hour, maximum 3 hours per session

Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour

About the Opportunity

Prospero Teaching is seeking an experienced SEN Tutor to deliver bespoke 1:1 education packages to young people with complex Special Educational Needs (SEN) who are currently not attending school.

Students present with a range of complex SEND needs, including:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Non-verbal communication needs

Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

Global learning delay

Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)

Many pupils have been out of education for an extended period and may be awaiting a specialist school placement. The successful tutor will provide structured, personalised support to help bridge learning gaps, build confidence, and support both academic and emotional development.

Prospero Teaching will work closely with the tutor to monitor progress and ensure effective learning outcomes for each pupil.

Experience, Training and Qualifications

QTS, QTLS, PGCE, EYFS or equivalent qualification

Previous experience supporting young people with complex SEN

Minimum of 6 months' experience working in a UK school

Up-to-date Safeguarding training (desirable but not essential)

Personal care experience (desirable but not essential)

To Be Eligible for This Role Through Prospero Teaching, You Must:

Hold the Right to Work in the UK

Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or be willing to process a new application

Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
