SEN / SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor - Primary Inclusion Centre, Portsmouth (ASAP Start)

Location: Portsmouth Start Date: ASAP Pay: From £14 p/h Contract: Supply - Temp to Perm

A welcoming, child‑centred Primary Inclusion Centre in Portsmouth is looking for a compassionate and resilient SEN / SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor to join their team as soon as possible. The centre supports primary‑aged pupils who present with social, emotional and mental health needs, anxiety, and barriers to learning within mainstream settings.

This is a role where you become a consistent, trusted adult for children who need stability, patience, and understanding. Your presence helps them feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.

Psychology, counselling or therapeutic studies

Youth work or mentoring

Sports coaching

Care, social work or early years

What You'll Be Doing

Supporting primary pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety and behavioural challenges

Using trauma‑informed, child‑centred approaches

Helping children regulate emotions and develop confidence

Encouraging engagement in learning through patience and consistency

Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the inclusion team

What We're Looking For

A warm, empathetic and flexible approach

Experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH or communication needs (advantageous)

Strong relationship‑building and behaviour‑support skills

A genuine commitment to helping children succeed-even on their toughest days

Requirements

Right to work in the UK

Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

References covering the last 24 months
