Salary: £84 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)

Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-Term

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to support students in a secondary school setting in Gateshead from 8:45 AM to 2:45 PM. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of young people who need understanding, structure, and consistent support to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Role Responsibilities of the SEMH TA:

Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.

Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm, constructive manner.

Assist with lesson engagement, adapting materials where necessary.

Promote emotional regulation and positive social interaction

Build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff.

Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams.

Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.

Job Requirements of the SEMH TA:

Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or in an SEN/alternative provision setting.

A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach.

Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.

Good communication and behaviour management skills.

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
