SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Chesterfield

Pay Rate: £95–£110 per day DOE

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Chesterfield. This rewarding role involves supporting students who require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support, helping them to re-engage with education and develop the skills needed for future success.

The provision offers a personalised and nurturing approach, with a strong focus on wellbeing, positive relationships and tailored learning pathways. Staff work closely together to ensure every student receives the support they need to make meaningful progress.

The Role:

Support students with SEMH needs in lessons and intervention sessions.

Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and progress.

Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.

Assist with behaviour management using restorative and positive behaviour approaches.

Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience and social skills.

Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies to support student outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate:

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.

A calm, patient and resilient approach.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Confidence supporting students who may present challenging behaviour.

A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
