Description

Secondary Teaching Assistant

Location: Derby (DE23)

PayScale: £100 - £115 per day

Duration: Long-term to permanent

Start date: 26th January 2026

The Opportunity:

Provide academic and pastoral support to students across a range of subjects in years 7, 8 & 9 (Key Stage 3) in a mainstream secondary school.

Proven experience supporting children on a 1:1 basis.

Ability to work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider team.

Full-time role, Monday to Friday. Paid up to £115 per day, term-time only.

Key Responsibilities:

Work under the guidance of the SENCO to deliver tailored support strategies

Provide 1:1 and small group assistance to students with a variety of special educational needs across all years

Support students to remain engaged and focused on lessons, adapting resources where needed

Assist with differentiation, coursework, and organisation to help students access the full curriculum

Help maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment through strong behaviour management skills

Liaise regularly with teaching staff and the SEN team to monitor progress and adjust support strategies accordingly

Who We're Looking For:

A minimum Level 3 qualification (essential).

Experience working in a secondary school or supporting students with SEN.

A patient, adaptable, and supportive approach to working with students.

Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents.

Ability to inspire and encourage students, creating a positive learning environment.

A strong commitment to safeguarding and student well-being.
