School Caretaker / Premises Officer – Wimbledon, Merton

We are seeking a reliable, proactive and hands-on School Caretaker / Premises Officer to join a welcoming school in Wimbledon, Merton. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced premises professional or someone with strong practical and maintenance skills who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented school environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Carrying out general maintenance, repairs and basic DIY across the school site.

* Ensuring classrooms, offices, communal areas and outdoor spaces are maintained to a high standard.

* Conducting regular site checks and identifying maintenance, health and safety or security issues.

* Supporting the opening and closing of the school premises as required.

* Managing keys, access arrangements and site security.

* Monitoring heating, lighting, alarms and other essential building systems.

* Arranging or supporting contractors and ensuring work is completed safely and appropriately.

* Maintaining outdoor areas, including playgrounds, paths, entrances and surrounding grounds.

* Assisting with deliveries, furniture moves, room setups and school events.

* Maintaining appropriate records relating to maintenance, inspections and site activities.

* Ensuring compliance with health and safety, fire safety and safeguarding procedures.

* Reporting any significant defects, hazards or repairs requiring specialist attention.

About You

The successful candidate will be practical, dependable, organised and proactive, with excellent attention to detail. Previous experience in a caretaker, premises, facilities, maintenance or similar role is desirable.

You should be confident carrying out general repairs and maintenance, working independently and prioritising tasks effectively. xjnqpsq Good communication skills and a professional approach are essential, as you will work closely with school staff, contractors, pupils and visitors.
