Description

Are you looking to gain hands on experience in a specialist setting? Are you a recent graduate dreaming of becoming a future Psychologist?

A unique and friendly Special School in Abingdon are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to help their pupils with special educational needs. The students at the school have a range of needs, including Autism, learning difficulties, speech and language needs and mental health challenges. They therefore need a Learning Support Assistant who is understanding, patient, with a positive, go-to attitude!

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be responsible for setting boundaries in the classroom and also making sure the pupils understand the value of education. You will help them understand their own emotional needs, and ensure they feel safe and supported in school. You will help manage any challenging behaviour that arises as a result of the student's needs, as well as providing pastoral support to students. Most importantly, you will set an example for all pupils and act as a positive role model.

If you are a Graduate in Psychology, Criminology or Sociology, this is the perfect opportunity for you to utilise your knowledge of atypical behaviour and development, whilst also gaining practical first-hand experience in the mental health sector. Previous experience working with children or adults with additional needs would be beneficial - this could be professional or personal experience.

The school has a significant focus on restorative practices, positive re-enforcement as well as Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is therefore an ideal role for an aspiring Forensic, Clinical or Educational Psychologist, as well as aspiring Youth and Criminal Justice Officers. xjnqpsq
