Summary

We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join a respected educational institute in Oxford during a pivotal period of transition and strategic change. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior finance leader with strong technical expertise, experience in organisational transformation and a collaborative, people–focused approach to make a lasting impact.

Our Client

An established Oxford–based educational organisation, dedicated to supporting learners with diverse needs to achieve their potential through education and personal development. The institute is entering a significant phase of change. Key priorities include strengthening financial sustainability, assessing partnership and merger opportunities, and driving forward a wider programme of organisational improvement.

The Role Provide leadership and continuity across all financial and operational areas, including budgeting, management reporting, cash flow, and year–end audit. Ensure robust financial governance and timely statutory and management reporting to the Principal and Governing Board. Oversee support functions, including HR, estates, IT, and compliance, working closely with internal teams and external partners. Lead financial due diligence and scenario planning for potential partnerships or mergers. Develop financial models, business cases, and reports to inform strategic decision–making. Support ongoing transformation initiatives, including income diversification, funding negotiations, and cost optimisation. Contribute to organisational restructuring and service development, ensuring financial implications are clearly scoped and communicated. Act as a trusted advisor to the Principal and leadership team during a period of strategic transition and renewal. The Successful Candidate Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent senior–level finance experience. Proven track record in financial leadership within education, charity, or public sector settings. Demonstrated experience in managing change, integration, or merger processes. Strategic mindset with the ability to remain hands–on in a dynamic, mission–led environment. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
