About the School:

This secondary Alternative Provision in Dagenham supports students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from their mainstream school. The school provides a supportive, structured environment where students can re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and make progress both academically and personally.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. You will help them manage their emotions, make positive choices, and re-establish trust in education. Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff, you will assist in creating a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

* Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions to support emotional regulation and behaviour management.

* Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and resilience.

* Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and implementing individual behaviour plans.

* De-escalate challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.

* Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing regular feedback to staff and senior leaders.

* Encourage positive attendance, punctuality, and participation in lessons.

* Promote a culture of respect, self-discipline and responsibility among students.

* Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and external agencies to support each learner’s development.

* Model positive behaviour and maintain high expectations for all students.

Requirements:

* Experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour, ideally within a school or alternative provision setting.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

* Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

* A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.

* DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
