Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant (TA)

Location: Gillingham, Kent

Start Date: January 2026

Contract: Term-time only | Full-time

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in a child's life?

We are seeking a caring, skilled and proactive Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 2 pupil in our welcoming mainstream primary school in Gillingham. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team dedicated to creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment for all children.

About the Role

You will:

Provide tailored 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with autism, helping them to access learning and thrive socially and emotionally

Use autism-informed strategies to scaffold communication, emotional regulation and independence

Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals to follow personalised support plans

Promote a positive, calm and structured environment where the pupil can succeed

Contribute to wider classroom activities as needed

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Experienced in supporting children with autism (school-based experience preferred)

Patient, compassionate and able to build trusting relationships

Knowledgeable about sensory needs, communication approaches and regulation strategies

Able to use initiative as well as work well within a team

Committed to inclusive practice and helping xjnqpsq children achieve their potential
