Location: Preston

Position: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (SEMH)

Contract Type: Long-Term, Term-Time only

Rate of Pay: £105.00 - £115.00 per day

Working Hours: 08:30 - 16:30

URGENTLY NEEDED

About the School:

We are working closely with a specialist school in Preston that supports children and young people with complex emotional, social and behavioural needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing and therapeutic environment, placing a strong emphasis on consistency, trust and positive relationships.

This role is ideal for a calm, resilient and compassionate practitioner who is passionate about supporting a vulnerable child on a 1:1 basis, helping them feel safe, regulated and ready to engage with learning.

The Role:

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a vulnerable pupil who requires consistent emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day. You will play a key role in helping them manage their emotions, behaviour and engagement, both in and out of the classroom.

Teaching Assistant: Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored 1:1 support to a child with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

Build a strong, trusting relationship to help the pupil feel safe, understood and supported.

Support emotional regulation using trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.

Implement behaviour strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.

Support the pupil during lessons, transitions and unstructured times.

Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and external professionals to follow an individual support plan.

Promote independence, confidence, social skills and positive decision-making.

Teaching Assistant Requirements:

Experience working with vulnerable children or young people with challenging behaviour.

A calm, patient and resilient approach, especially in emotionally demanding situations.

An understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed practice.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

A positive, team-focused attitude and commitment to safeguarding.

To Be Eligible You Must:

Hold Right to Work in the UK.

Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one.

Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years.
