2000 Subaru Impreza P1
Registration Number: TGO 10V
Chassis Number: TBA
Recorded Mileage: 40,180 miles
- One of just 1,000 P1s produced exclusively for the UK market
- Unmodified and highly original example
- One owner from new until 2022
- c.40,000 miles on the odometer
Introduced in 2000, the P1 was commissioned by Subaru UK and developed in conjunction with Prodrive, the Oxfordshire engineering firm responsible for Subaru's World Rally Championship programme. Created in response to the growing number of Japanese-market WRX STi grey imports arriving in Britain, it was based upon the formidable two-door WRX STi Type R and became the first official UK-market two-door Impreza.
Only 1,000 examples were produced, all finished in distinctive Sonic Blue Mica, with the P1 receiving bespoke styling by Peter Stevens, the designer of the McLaren F1. Yet the changes went considerably deeper than appearance. Prodrive engineers reinforced the two-door bodyshell to meet European requirements and developed an entirely revised chassis specifically for British roads, testing more than 22 combinations of springs and dampers before arriving at the final specification. Revised geometry, uprated dampers, springs and anti-roll bars transformed the already capable STi platform, while 17-inch OZ Racing alloy wheels completed the package.
Under the bonnet lies Subaru's 1,994cc turbocharged flat-four, producing a quoted 276bhp and 253lb ft of torque, driving all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox with a short-shift linkage. To meet European emissions and noise regulations while retaining the performance of the Japanese STi, Prodrive developed a revised exhaust and larger catalytic converter alongside a bespoke ECU calibration.
The result was an unusually sophisticated road car: immensely quick, capable of around 155mph and 0–60mph in approximately 4.7 seconds, yet sufficiently refined and compliant to exploit its considerable abilities on Britain's notoriously imperfect roads. It remains one of the clearest examples of Prodrive's ability to translate rally-bred engineering into an exceptionally effective road car.
This particularly desirable example is understood to remain entirely original and unmodified. Supplied new to the Channel Islands, it remained with its first owner until 2022, when it was imported to the UK mainland. The P1 was subsequently treated to sympathetic cosmetic and mechanical maintenance before being dry stored and used sparingly.
Showing just 40,180 verified miles, the Subaru retains its supplying-dealer window sticker, original book pack, spare keys and working factory alarm fobs, together with its owner's handbooks, stamped service book and a substantial file of maintenance invoices.
The latest service was completed in June 2025 with the car passing its last MoT without advisories. Recently the original wheels have been freshly powder coated in their original hue, fitted with new Pirellis on each corner in addition to new brake discs and pads.
Presented in very well-preserved condition, the P1 remains one of the defining performance cars of its generation and an increasingly collectible, iconic, modern classic.
