Description
I've owned these a long time. They were completely refurbished by a retired BBC sound engineer with new matching drivers and a crossover rebuild. Braced cabinets and fitted with upgraded acoustic damping - they pass the 'knuckle knock test' with ease. If you don't already know, these were/are BBC sanctioned studio monitors and, therefore, built to a very particular sound and specification. Equipped with tweaked KEF drivers, they were quite something of a revelation when they came out - they still (and will for a very long time) maintain a very high level of sonic dignity. You'll hear stuff on your playing medium that you never knew were there. Pink Floyd's The Wall & Jeff Waynes' War of the Worlds are two notable examples where the music and detail just comes alive.
I ran these through an all-valve set up but they also sound terrific with decent solid state amps.
These are immaculate and probably the best speakers you will hear under £1000. I've been a HIFI hobbyist for over forty years and the only thing that came close to these and actually usurped them were a set of my friend's £3,500 Dynaudios that I was priviledged enough to be allowed to try out.
I'm very reluctant to sell these but I have splashed out and bought the very same Dynaudios.
Speakers include the (very rare) Heybrook HB1 stands.
Moving house soon so the less I've got to pack etc etc.
Interested? Bring your best vinyl, CD or cassette (but please don't drag half your hifi gear too - tried that and it's a bloody faff!)
