About the Role

Helping Hands Supported Living CIC is looking for reliable, compassionate, and motivated Support Workers to join our growing team. You will provide person-centred support to vulnerable young people and adults living in our Supported Accommodation services.

Our clients include Care Leavers, individuals experiencing homelessness, Ex-offenders, and people with Mental Health needs or a history of Substance Misuse. Some of our services operate on a 24-hour staffed basis, requiring overnight sleep-in support to ensure residents receive consistent care, guidance, and safeguarding.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable people to develop independence and achieve positive outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

Deliver regular support sessions and welfare checks.
Build positive, professional relationships with residents and provide person-centred support.
Support residents with tenancy responsibilities, cleaning rotas, and compliance with house rules.
Assist with Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, budgeting, form-filling, appointments, and other daily living skills.
Support residents with college applications, training opportunities, employment searches, and accessing community services.
Provide emotional support and signpost residents to appropriate services, including GPs, Mental Health Teams, Substance Misuse Services, and other partner agencies.
Work collaboratively with Social Workers, Probation Services, Local Authorities, Health Professionals, and other agencies.
Complete accurate support notes, support plans, risk assessments, incident reports, and other required documentation.
Monitor residents' wellbeing and identify any safeguarding or welfare concerns, reporting these in accordance with company policies.
Encourage residents to develop independent living skills and achieve agreed support outcomes.
Participate in regular team meetings, supervision, and mandatory training. Provide overnight cover through sleep-in night shifts as part of the staff rota.
Support the delivery of our 24-hour staffed supported accommodation services, ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and welfare of residents throughout the day and night.
Respond appropriately to overnight incidents, emergencies, and welfare concerns in line with safeguarding procedures.
Complete thorough handovers between shifts and maintain accurate records of overnight activities and any significant events.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for individuals who have:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with vulnerable individuals from diverse backgrounds.
The ability to provide person-centred support and build trusting professional relationships.
Good problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly when managing complex or challenging situations.
The ability to carry out risk assessments and follow safeguarding procedures. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple caseloads.
Excellent record-keeping and report-writing skills, including maintaining accurate support records.
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic case management systems.
Flexibility to work a rota that includes day shifts, evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in night shifts where required.

Essential Experience

Experience supporting vulnerable individuals, including:

People experiencing homelessness.
Individuals with Mental Health needs.
Care Leavers. Individuals with a history of Substance Misuse.

Experience working in:

Supported Accommodation.
Housing Support Services.
Community or Social Care settings.

Experience in:

Delivering structured Support Plans.
Conducting welfare checks.
Supporting tenancy sustainment.
Maintaining professional records and case notes.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum of one of the following:

Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Housing, or a related field; or Relevant work experience within Supported Housing, Housing Support, or Social Care.

Desirable Skills

Knowledge of:

Housing legislation and tenancy management.
Local Authority systems and referral pathways.
Housing Benefit and Universal Credit processes.

Understanding of:

Mental Health conditions.
Trauma-informed support approaches.
Substance Misuse recovery and harm reduction.

Ability to support residents into:

Employment.
Education or training.
Independent living.

Desirable Qualifications

Level 3 or above in Health & Social Care, Housing Practice, or a Social Work-related field.
Training in Safeguarding Adults.
Mental Health Awareness.
First Aid. Substance Misuse Awareness (desirable).
