Mid Century Teak Long John Sideboard.
2 Storage Cupboards & Central 3 Stacked Drawers. circa 1960's / 1970s.

We are delighted to offer this stunning & very impressive vintage mid 20th century Teak sideboard. Made by Nathan Furniture of Hackney Road, East London. Affectionally know as a the ' Long John ' but model name ‘ Squares ’ because of its beaded detail to the cupboard doors. This sideboard is just over 2m long. Hand crafted piece of furniture in a Danish style fashioned in Teak woods. It has superb attention to detail with contrast dark post wood handles & amber gold teak wood grains. The piece features two large double door storage cupboards, one at each end, each with fixed internal shelf that could possibly be removed so would then store vinyls. A central stack of three graduated size drawers. The cupboard doors & drawers all function well with no issues. The cabinet is mounted on a solid teak wood box leg frame for even more style & elevation. Overall it has ample storage space & presents very nicely indeed. It would make a superb contemporary TV cabinet, media storage unit. It has achieved a gorgeous natural age related amber gold patination.

It comes directly from a recent estate sale & is sold in superb as found ready to use condition. Some minor age related surface marks & one or two minor scuffs & dinks, all of which adds to its vintage retro charm. It's been properly cleaned inside & out, refinished, teak oiled & so now ready to use, love & enjoy once more. Would make for a stunning authentic addition to any mid century or contemporary interior design scheme.

Overall an excellent piece of furniture in nice vintage condition by a well known maker.

Brief Company History : Nathan Furniture
Hackney London.

In 1916 Russian born Barnett Nathan began to manufacture handcrafted pieces of furniture from a workshop in Hackney Road, East London. The early years were tough ones. With the ongoing event of WWI, the firm opted to supplement its income by manufacturing munitions boxes for the government.

Things really took off in 1952 when the second generation of family joined the business. Barnett's sons Jerrold and Clive refined the companies offering with a focus on dining room furniture. They also promoted the importance of investment in good design.

In 1963 the company made the decision to focus on the highly desirable Scandinavian style. Nathan released the 'Citadel' range of teak furniture which was simple, elegant and functional. It was a nationwide success and has influenced the design aesthetic of the company ever since.

With the release of the Patrick Lee designed 'Classic Collection' in 1970, Nathan Furniture solidified its position as an upmarket furniture maker with a strong contemporary design focus. Nathan Furniture continues today, carrying on the tradition of good design, quality and value.

Would make for a fabulous interior design statement . . .
