About the Client

Our client Tom is 15 years old and lives with his Mum and Dad in their fully adapted home. Tom is a charming, sweet, and cheerful young man with a love of music, arts and crafts, and spending time with his family. Tom has cerebral palsy, and complex care and medical needs; he is a wheelchair user and is tube fed. He is reliant on others to meet all his health, care, and medical needs. He uses a communication book, along with facial expressions, body language, and sounds to support his communication. Tom has a dedicated and committed care team in place, and he is now seeking a waking night carer to join! His care team works in collaboration with his Mum and Dad who are instrumental in their son's care.

The Role at a Glance

The night shift starts at 9.30pm initially with a handover then onto assisting and supporting Tom to get ready for bed and set up comfortably into his sleep system. Tom may want you to stay with him for a little chat or whilst he drifts off to sleep – he will let you know! Otherwise, he will alert you via the monitor if he requires your support at any point throughout the night. You are welcome to rest in the carer’s bedroom. Each morning Tom prefers to be washed, dressed and get ready for the day before breakfast; therefore, depending on what the day’s plans are, he may need a wake-up call. There is plenty of opportunities for overtime and if you support Tom during a day shift, he will let you know the plan, however the typical duties all remain the same.

This Job Would Suit

A kind, committed, empathetic, and confident professional with a genuine interest and passion when it comes to supporting and caring for others. For this role, you must be a driver, with a car (due to the location of the family’s home).

Why You’ll Love This Role

You will be part of a dedicated Care Team, receive excellent training and ongoing supervision. Tom is a pleasure to work with and support, he is a real character and captures everyone's heart!
