About our client: Fen is 11 years old and lives with his mum and dad in West London; within the next few months the family will be moving to South West London. Fen is incredibly gentle, sweet, and loving; he loves one to one interaction, games that he can join in with, listening to people read books to him, and especially Peppa Pig and Shrek! He has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and a Developmental Delay. He is a full-time wheelchair user, and communicates using body language, sounds and facial expressions, he is also learning how to use his iPad to communicate via an app. Fen is fully dependent for all his care needs, such as PEG feeding and medication; mum is the second support worker however, when Fen and his family relocate to their new property his team will expand and he will have two dedicated SEN Support Workers with him during the day.
Overview of role: On arrival from school Fen really enjoys quiet time / rest after a busy day at school, and then his SEN Support Worker will assist with his therapy routines and goals, as set by his therapists. His family and team work very hard in keeping Fen infection free so there may be days when he does not attend school, if his SEN Support Worker could start earlier on these days, that would be greatly appreciated. Fen will not require his SEN Support Worker to assist with his sleep routine, as he typically has a cuddle with Mum, and drifts off to sleep, although you will be assisting with personal hygiene and getting into his pajamas etc. Sunday activities will typically be planned by Fen and his family (but they are keen to hear if there is any exciting events happening) depending on the weather, local walks, drives in and around town, going out to interactive theatre, or indoor games and of course lots of chatting and laughter. Fen’s mum is a wonderful cook so there are always fabulous smells emanating from the kitchen.
Who this job would suit: Someone who really understands working within a family unit, sensitive to the needs and wishes of Fen’s family, who is gentle and warm in their approach. A confident driver is a must and ideally happy to travel – there will be two trips this year, one to Dubai.
What's great about this job: Fantastic onboarding with PEG feeding training provided and ongoing supervision and support from the family’s case management team.
