Description
2005 (but a 2006 model) Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T convertible in 298 Jet black metallic.
It's a 2.0 high output turbo that has a Mitsubishi TD04 turbo from the factory. But it’s now been remapped to stage 1.
It's got 126k or so on the clock (I got it 2.5 years ago (ish) and it had 80k on it. I've been going back and forth to Aberdeen in it all the time, so it's all motorway miles.
I've spent the last 2 years since I got it restoring it and upgrading it, using specialists like Chris Conlin at Sablishus and Wes and Kim at Saab Specialists Dirty Hands Garage in Glenrothes, who all know their stuff. And yes - they all drive Saabs. this means parts and work as well as knowledge.
it's had loads of work done.
It's had the roof mechanicals completely sorted - New sensors, hydraulic fluid and I think at least one ram replaced. Wes and Kym at Dirty Hands garage did that.
They also replaced new shocks all round (and at least one new shock mount rear and both upper mounts at the front). New discs and pads all round ( ithink at least one new caliper). This was just a few months ago.
It's had uprated drop links fitted at the front - which are way bigger than standard, which keeps handling quite tight. There's a pair of new rear drop links in the boot given to me by previous owner but I've never got round to fitting them, as it's always felt fine with the ones on there.
I'll try and remember everything I've done to it to get it tickety boo, so here goes:
I fitted reconditioned wiper mechanism, new xenon headlights and fogs - and I also completely replaced the wiring loom for the lights at the front with a full genuine Saab loom as someone had been dicking around with it all, wiring things up like an idiot. It was a mess, with wrong wires going to lights etc, so I removed it all, and put it all back to stock (Chirs Conlin has every Saab part anyone will ever need - he's a top bloke). Also fixed all the washer pumps - including the washers on the front lights. These are prone to being busted - so they all work nicely (just when the lights are on when you scoosh your washers).
Ignition packs have all been replaced recently and car runs nicely.
Fan sensor replaced and coolant temp sensor replaced 2 days ago, as it was playing up -
It was bugging me. Now fixed and all good.
New battery.
The additional modified and upgraded stuff:
I've installed a genuine Saab 6 CD changer unit in the dash. Old school, but hey....
Installed an auto dimming rear view mirror.
Installed powerfold mirrors to stop me breathing in and wincing when coming in and out of the lane where I live. This was a bigger job than I thought it would be - had to rewire both front doors with new looms and upgrade the electric window motors. All done and work nicely. The mirrors come out automatically when you reach 20mph or go in and out with inner button or key fob. Nice wee feature.
I installed a genuine Saab upgrade hidden boot release button. This is a genuine upgrade that not many cars have, Don't ask - I did it, well.... because I could.
Replacement aircon unit in the dashboard - previous one had buttons that were all coming off (which is common with this mode; - but the replacement is nigh on perfect).
Gear knob and gaiter replaced with black one and new leather gaiter.
Front grille slightly modified with a black cross member - because it looks better.
Rear number plate lights upgraded to LEDs (which are diffeicult to find ones that don't flicker and interfere with the CANBUS system. Looks more modern and safer at night.
Ok - now the 'goes faster than normal' bit:
I've had the car remapped by noobtune, who specialises in Saabs - nothing else (Karl has done pretty much all the Saabs I've owned - and this one is Saab no.6). Has an extra 50 bhp than stock with this remap.
I've also put in a Pipercross performance air filter (which lasts lifetime). Also changed the air intake from airbox into turbo with a full silicone pipe (as the stock plastic ones can crack) to ensure there's no air loss and it boosts along well.
Air lines replaced with upgraded silicone ones.
Boost control valve replaced - it wasn't quite as boosty as it should have been.
The thing flies along when you put your foot down. It'll put a smile on your face.
Few points to note. Car works really well (and yes, it should be pretty reliable).
Has 2 keys.
Fuel gauge can fail to go right down when you turn the car off sometimes, which can be a pain in the arse. I pull Fuse 4 and it resets it all. Takes a few seconds. It's a pain, but that's the only job I've not got round to doing.
I have put original wheels back on - was running it with different wheels, but the originals look ok but could be refurbed if you want them perfect. I've cleaned them up and put new centre caps on, which keep them looking ok. Rear tyres could be replaced. If you're after the car, I'll get replacements fitted. Front ones are pretty good.
I've just treated and redyed the roof with- there are spots on the roof from tree sap, from previous owner keeping it parked under a tree - god knows how to get tree sap off. Beats me, but looks good since I refurbed it. This is a very quick car, that is in pretty
Good Nick - grab yourself a bargain.
