By the late 90’s Rover had evolved the Mini into a more sophisticated interpretation of the original concept, with multi-point fuel injection introduced in 1996 to improve emissions, refinement and cold-start performance. The 1,275cc A-Series engine remained at its heart, retaining the direct character for which the Cooper was renowned.

For enthusiasts, the Sportspack was the defining specification of the final Mini era. Introduced in 1996, it replaced the standard 12-inch wheels with wider 13 x 6-inch Sportspack alloys and 175/50 R13 tyres, requiring wider arch extensions. The package also incorporated a strengthened rear subframe, a quicker steering rack, uprated suspension with Koni dampers, four auxiliary lamps, larger-bore exhaust finisher and additional instrumentation including oil-temperature and battery-condition gauges. The result was a considerably more purposeful Mini, with increased grip and sharper road manners.

This 1998 Mini Cooper is a genuine factory Sportspack example, finished in vibrant Solar Red with classic contrasting white roof and bonnet stripes. The Black leather interior is complemented by burr walnut dashboard trim. The car remains in original specification.

Showing 68,825 miles, R565 PJM is accompanied by its original Rover bill of sale, stamped service book and substantial history file. The records document diligent maintenance by recognised Mini specialists, including numerous mechanical works and regular servicing.

Presented with straight bodywork, good panel lines and very few notable imperfections, this example remains very well preserved.

The Sportspack was one of the final significant developments of the classic Mini, combining wider wheels, revised suspension and improved handling with the character of the original design. Genuine, unmodified examples are increasingly sought after, and this well-documented Cooper offers a particularly appealing example of the final generation.
